In my last Minimalism: Papers In Progress – Part 4, I spent several hours simply shredding receipts, which inspired me to get back to the real task on hand-getting rid of more files of papers in my remaining file drawer.
I must admit, at first, it was a slow start because I kept wondering if I should at least scan some of them for retention purposes, but I realized that I have not referred to a majority of these papers since filing them away in the first place. I came to the conclusion that if I ever needed something in the future, I’d eventually figure out how to get what I need.
Several hours over the span of a couple weeks, I shredded 5 LARGE bags of paper and visibly reduced the amount of files in the drawer to about a third full (plus that organizer of receipts that I didn’t get to on my last post).

I felt very pleased with myself finding the drive to make such progress because for the first time in months after starting my most dreaded category I finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel. A lot of files left in the drawer are items I do actually refer to every now and then, such as car records so I will need to transfer them to electronic records before shredding them. But I am confident I will soon be able to claim victory over my paper hoarding once and for all and I can’t wait!

Did you feel lighter in the end?
