As part of my spiritual journey, I am developing a new meditation practice for myself. This is one of the few things that I have begun a couple weeks ago. I try to do it every single day, preferably in the morning before I start anything else. The main reason I have chosen this practice called Running Energy is because I would like to develop my intuition, something I have felt very disconnected from for far too long. My default to hide my genuine feelings and thoughts has blocked my intuition and I am attempting to turn that around. When I first Ran Energy, I didn’t know anything about it and struggled a little with the process. I have since tried a few different guided audio and video versions including doing some research to ensure I understood it better, to be more effective when doing it myself. As I have shared my experience recently with a couple of people, I found myself further explaining this practice and decided to compile this information as notes to myself since writing things down helps me retain the knowledge. If it help others understand more about Running Energy, then that is only an additional benefit.
Here is all the basic information I think people should be aware of prior to Running Energy for the first time so they know what to expect and have a full understanding of the process beforehand.
Running Energy is a practice that ideally is done daily to help with any of the following: achieving clarity, peace, balance, to heal the body, transform bad energy into good energy and get in touch with the higher self. As I mentioned before, it allows development of intuition as well as psychic abilities and can also improve outcomes when done before other spiritual practices.
There are two types of energy involved with Running Energy, the first is earth energy, which is a feminine energy coming from the earth below that helps with grounding to reduce anxiety and achieve calmness. The second type of energy is referred to as cosmic or universe energy, coming from high above, such as the center of the galaxy, or heaven if that is your belief system, and is of a masculine nature allowing connection to your definition of higher power, such as the divine, universe, higher self, or source. When Running Energy, both types of energies flow through the body, which I picture being done in a figure 8 shape.
Basic understanding of chakras is necessary with Running Energy. Chakras are energy centers in your body and there are 7 to be aware of for this practice. The root or 1st chakra, a rich red color, is located at the base of your spine where your tailbone is. This is where grounding occurs to give you a sense of safety. Legs act as a direct channel to the root chakra from the feet. The sacral or 2nd chakra, commonly orange in color, is halfway between your tailbone and navel, often described as being 2-3 inches below your belly button and is both a sexual and creative energy while also being related to both your own and others emotions. The solar plexus or 3rd chakra, depicted by a yellow color, is at your stomach area and is where self-esteem and confidence resides to assert ourselves in feeling in control of our life. The heart or 4th chakra with the color green associated to it is not actually where your heart is, but rather in the center of your chest and is obviously where love is associated. The throat or 5th chakra, often represented by turquoise or aquamarine blue colors, is located in your throat and deals with verbal communication. The third eye or 6th chakra, an indigo blue color, is centered between your eyebrows and is the point for intuition. The crown or 7th chakra, colored purple or white, is at the very top of your head and is responsible for connecting spiritually with your higher self, others and the universe.

Before Running Energy, it is recommended to be in a comfortable seated position with legs uncrossed and feet planted firmly on the floor. Arms should also not be crossed and may either gently hang at the sides of the body or with hands laying flat in the lap.
The meditation is started with taking deep breaths by slowly inhaling, holding for a brief moment, then releasing the breath gently. It is ideal to continue breathing deeply throughout the entire length of the practice, but should not distract from the focus of Running Energy. If at any point during the session you find yourself holding your breath, be sure to return to inhaling and exhaling fully.
The first step is to create a connection with the earth through the feet. Visualizing that connection can be done according to your preference. Some suggestions include a beam of light, roots growing like a plant or tree, rope or, my personal preference, a hollow metal rod since it allows me to picture energy flowing easily inside the rod. With regards to color, most can be used, but it is suggested to avoid black or white. Browns and greens are often associated to the earth and promote grounding and feelings of calm. When speaking about the core of the earth, oranges or reds can also be used, which have a more intense and uplifting energy to them. Choose whichever colors seem best suited for the specific session and know that it is fine to change the colors according to what is needed for that particular instance. That connection is extended from the feet into the ground or floor, through the earth’s crust and mantle, to the outer core until reaching the inner core of the earth.
Once the connection is established, it is checked and strengthened if necessary by sending energy from the root chakra to the earth’s core and receiving energy back from the earth. Then negativity is sent to be transmuted* to positivity. *NOTE: The word “transmute” is specifically used, instead of the word “transform”, because transform refers to making a change that you can go back to. Think of the toy transformers which can go back and forth from Autobots or Decepticons to cars. Transmute means to change completely without ever going back to the original state. With negative energy, the goal is to change negative energy to positive energy without ever reverting back to the negative.
Feel free to come up with any method of transmuting the negative to positive. One way I do it is by conjuring an image of a smart vacuum against the bottoms of my feet that sucks and takes only negativity from every inch of my body, from pain, to negative thoughts or emotions to the core of the earth, that is transmuted positively and sent back up to the body. Pain or tension can be imagined being taken down to be absorbed by mother earth and her healing energy coming back into the body. With blockages, you may picture the earth’s energy disintegrating those blockages in your chakras and channels.
Another way is picturing negative self talk in the head or feelings in the heart being typed in a brown color that is then pulled into the core of the earth to be transmuted with typed positive words in a beautiful green color. Those words comes back up through the root chakra before going back to the heart or head. An example of negative self talk is “I am not good enough” which is transmuted to “I AM good enough.”
This part of the process may be done a few times before requesting assistance from whichever higher power you are most comfortable with, such as God, spirit guides, guardian angels, ascended masters or archangels, to automatically run earth energy to the root chakra so that the focus may be then be shifted to cosmic energy.
When envisioning opening the crown chakra to the cosmos, I recommend beginners to imagine a smaller opening because they may be unaccustomed to or feel overwhelmed by the energy. A funnel inserted into the opening is another way to temper the amount of energy received from the universe to ensure it is channeled gently into the body rather than rushed or flooded into it, which can result in discomfort that may develop as a feeling lightheadedness or dizziness. With more experience, a bigger opening may be used. When envisioning cosmic energy, black should not be used and it is recommended to avoid white, a very high vibration color that tends to put you out of your body versus the intent of this practice, which is to bring you into your body. Gold is a more preferable color to use instead.
I personally imagine some cosmic energy spilling over the edge of the funnel coming down the front of my scalp flowing over my forehead, to my third eye chakra, then the bridge of my nose and upper lip before going between my lips into my mouth, where I imagine it tastes like honey coating my throat chakra where it reunites with the rest of the energy that entered through my crown. The energy continues down through all of the remaining chakras in the body.
The last part of Running Energy involves sending small amounts of cosmic energy down to earth while also having small amounts of earth energy sent up to the universe. I prefer to picture a few strands of gold cosmic energy blending with earth energy in the root chakra before being sent to the core of the earth. Then in perfect balance, a few strands of whatever color earth energy I selected for the session is intertwined with the gold cosmic energy in the root chakra once again and moves up the body before leaving the crown chakra back up to the universe. Know that love and support by the earth, the universe and your higher power flows through the body by Running Energy this way.
To end the practice, the connection is retracted from earth and the crown chakra opening is gently closed as thanks is given. Then the palms of the hands are rubbed together to gather whatever excess energy is still in the body and the palms are pressed to the ground to return it to mother earth in gratitude for her healing energy.
The very first time I Ran Energy, I was not familiar with exactly where the chakras were located, or what color to imagine for each energy. I envisioned a very bright sparkly blinding white light, the type I associate to heaven and accompanies angel visits for the cosmic energy and had it pour into my crown chakra, which resulted in feeling uncomfortably lightheaded and dizzy for almost half an hour afterwards. It was only after doing more research and listening to a few other Running Energy techniques that I modified it according to my personal preferences.
After doing this many times now, I found this information beneficial and thought sharing my learnings and process could help others so that people’s experience of Running Energy for the first time is a pleasant one!
