I have listened to several guided meditations the past couple of weeks regarding passion. I decided to create a version that includes concepts from those various ones that I found most beneficial and created some of the guidance myself. This does not have any meditation music in the background, so feel free to play some on your own if you desire.
As you get your body comfortable and close your eyes, we will begin by taking three deep breaths. Breathe in, hold and breathe out. Inhale, hold and exhale. Take another breath, hold and release.
Picture yourself stepping into an elevator, as you look at the panel of buttons, you notice they indicate different time frames. These buttons represent your life from the moment you were born, your present and even your future. Bring your hand up and press the button that takes you to your childhood.
Feel the elevator move up. As the doors open take a step forward onto a white shiny epoxy floor. Looking around, you see you are in a big bare room with white walls and a white ceiling. There are no windows or lights and come to the realization that each of the four white walls are illuminating the entire room because they are one giant monitor that make up each side of the room.
Take a moment to think about your entire childhood including your teenage years focusing on all the different happy times. Allow the images to come fully into your mind and automatically reject fear or anything negative from coming through. As memories surface, you will see those times in your past playing on the monitor walls of the room like a movie. Take some time to watch yourself as a child, happy and carefree.
Notice what you are doing that is making you smile and laugh. It can be things that came easy and natural to you. See what activities are bringing you joy and make time pass quickly. Are these things you used to mostly do alone, with your family or with friends? Take note of all the things that you genuinely enjoyed as a child as these may be clues of passions that you may have forgotten about. Now remember the make believe play that you used to spend hours imagining about and notice if you used to do this on your own or with others. As you watch the monitors replay the make believe play and any other happy memories when you were a kid, do you notice a theme that surfaces more than others because you loved it so much? It can be something simple. Smile and immerse yourself in the happy feelings as you recall these wonderful childhood memories before you prepare to leave and go back to the elevator.
Once you are in the elevator, you become aware of a button that you didn’t notice before. The button says “Proudest Moment of My Life”. Your curiosity gets the best of you and you find yourself pressing the button without a second thought.
As you feel the elevator move, your mind may struggle to identify where in your life you will be taken to. A few things may come to mind, but before you can focus on a specific ones, you feel the elevator come to a stop and the doors open. Similar to the floor of your childhood, you step onto a white shiny floor but in this smaller sized room there is only one wall illuminated in white and there is a chair in the middle of the otherwise empty room. You walk over to it and take a seat. The screen flashes a title you knew was coming. Your name appears and the words “Proudest Moment” follow. Images flicker and cycle through until the memory becomes clear in your mind. As you focus on the single moment in your life and see it play out on the screen in detail. Take a deep breath in and exhale and think about why you felt proud as you watch the movie of that moment playing over and over. Did that moment involve your unique skills and talent? If so, this may help you get further clarity with identifying your passions.
As the movie comes to an end and the screen goes back to bright white, go ahead and stand up from the chair and make your way back to the elevator.
In the elevator, focus on the buttons that are in your future. Take a moment to think about what it would be like to be in full alignment with your passion. Then decide how far in your future you want to go whether it be months, a year or several years ahead. Press the button to the time you want to go to in your future. You feel a difference in the movement of the elevator this time, as if you are being transported through a portal instead of a normal building to another floor like before.
As the doors open, you think you must be in an alternate universe, one of many potential futures that may come to fruition where you are living out your passions and purpose in life. There is a white haze all around you, as if you are walking on and in clouds. Suddenly all the fog dissipates and you find yourself in your future. As you look around ask yourself the following questions.
- What is this environment I am in?
- What am I doing?
- Who am I with? Who are they and what are they doing, saying and how are they making me feel?
- What does my family look like?
- What is my work or business or how am I sustaining this abundant life I am living?
- What type of person have I evolved into?
- Lastly, ask yourself, How do I feel now that I am living as my true self and living my passion?
As you finish answering all these questions, prepare yourself to go back to the elevator feeling fully satisfied with what you have seen. Enter the elevator and remain facing the back of the elevator as you sense the doors close behind you. Gaze at yourself in the mirror at the back of the elevator and admire your reflection. Look into your own eyes and smile to yourself. See a happy version of your future self appear in the mirror.
Your older and entirely fulfilled self then tells you, “I am so grateful for you. You are so worthy of pursuing your passions. I was so proud of you for all the actions you took to get here to me. Know that I will be with you every step of the way to achieve this or something even better. I love you.”
A moment later, you see the doors of the elevator in the reflection open. Turn around and step out of the elevator and feel yourself come back into your body and into the present. Begin to sense the room around you and when you are ready, open your eyes.
I recommend that you journal about what you saw during this meditation.
