In my previous Feng shui blog posts, I mentioned the practice is not simple. It was developed several thousands of years ago and there is good reason behind why a Grand Master only receives that title after spending most of their lifetime practicing and perfecting their execution of it. Its complication can be compared to an onion with many layers that need to be taken into consideration not only as a whole but also how each layer interacts with every other layer. Today, I am only going to give a general overview. I can’t go into a lot of details for a couple of reasons:
1) I’m not authorized directly by the Grand Master to teach anyone else what I learned (the penalty of doing so would be getting kicked out of his lineage) and
2) Even if I were allowed to teach it, I don’t know how it can be written because there are so many variables and possible combinations, it would be impossible to capture everything! I do plan to read a couple Flying Star books that are out there, but I already read some reviews and saw someone commenting that the method of flying the stars is wrong.
There are so very many minute nuances to each of these, but let me give you a taste of all the different things that a Classically Certified Feng Shui Consultant who is trained in the Flying Stars School will consider if hired to do a home assessment.
1. Time period of the home
a. Generally this is when you move into the home, but there are some situations where certain other factors may result in your move-in date not being considered as the period of the home.
2. Facing direction of the home
a. Those who have some knowledge of Feng Shui may be surprised to hear this may be totally different from where the front door of the home is located. My own home’s facing is not where my front door is located and is an entirely different side of the house.
3. Compass direction reading
a. It’s not only North, South, East and West, but includes Northwest, Southwest, Northeast and Southeast. Then on top of those 8 general directions, each direction is narrowed even further into smaller segments that breaks down to a half of a specific degree.
4. Flying Stars – This is a 3 x 3 grid of 9 numbers that people may confuse with sudoku because it looks like that. Each individual number, which represents a specific star has its own name and color. The way the stars are precisely arranged within the grid, is why it is called flying stars. There are specific formulations to calculate which number goes where and how to evaluate the combinations of them. Each number or star is related to multiple things as listed below:
-
- Direction (the 8 previously described in number 3)
- Elements like Earth, Water and Fire
- Family Members such as son, daughter, mother and father
- Chinese Zodiac Animals (including which one is considered cardinal or not)
- Colors
- Seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter
- Organs throughout the body and related ailments
- Then these stars can be considered in reference of various times from Permanent, Annual, Monthly and even Daily and Hourly
-
- When looking at stars with reference of time, a particular star can be classified as Timely or Untimely and based on that, will describe either an auspicious or inauspicious specific type of energy such as Wealth or Illness.
-
5. Then the specific home layout or floorplan is combined with all of the above noting locations of doors, rooms and even specific positioning of various pieces of furniture.
6. All the external landforms outside the home, whether that be natural or manmade cannot be dismissed either. Those can play a role with specific star combinations!
7. Last thing I will mention, but definitely not least, is the residents of the home, their position within the family and which rooms they sleep or work in is a very important layer that a Feng shui consultant must analyze along with all the different aforementioned variables of a home. For example, a specific star combination with potential negative outcomes may only be of concern if there is a child in a specific room.
Based on all of the generic high level information I provided, I want you take a moment to think about each of the layers I went over and the numerous possible combinations that may exist in and outside your home that would affect your personalized home assessment. This is why a single assessment from a classically certified Feng Shui consultant can cost several hundreds up to thousands of dollars. It requires a trained eye a significant amount of time to review and analyze many different ways before determining the overall energy of each area of your home.
