Is there a tree/pole/post or corner of another building in direct alignment with your front door? Or is there a corner of an interior wall or beam in alignment of your front door when looking from the outside in? Is the front door NOT easily visible from the front of the house? Can you see the back door of the house when standing in the front door? Is the front door facing a T-Junction outside or a flight of stairs or bathroom inside? If you said yes to any of these questions, then from a Feng Shui perspective, there is potential risk of negative energies that may affect things in your life including health and wealth.
Before I get started, I would like to explain one Feng Shui term, called a poison arrow. Poison arrows are believed to cause stressful negative energy. Some of the questions I asked refer to poison arrows related to the front door that may result in negative experiences for the residents of the home.
With so many different schools of Feng Shui out there, there are many varied opinions on the Feng Shui of a front door. I’ll go over a few general aspects based on my training with San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui that you may want to take into consideration for your own front door. Keep in mind that there are many Layers of Feng Shui that a certified consultant will need to analyze before giving any specific Feng Shui remedies and recommendations. What I will go over are only general guidelines and do not take into account the many other factors in each home that may affect and result in a different analysis and recommendation.
The first thing to understand is that the front door is the main way energy enters a home so is considered one of the most important features to ensure has proper Feng Shui. The goal is to have good energy enter the home while trying to reduce any bad energies from coming in. Unfortunately for my own apartment, I answered yes to some of the questions at the start of this post and because I am renting, I am not able to implement remedies for a couple of them.
When a tree/pole/post is aligned with the front door, this is a poison arrow called a Piercing Heart Sha and is considered negative for health, career and finance. There are a few ways to resolve this issue: If possible, take whatever it is down. If that is not possible, round out any sharp corners, such as sanding down squared wood posts. Placing a chandelier inside the entrance is a remedy that works better for posts or pillars or you may place plants directly in front of it that is at least half the height of the post or pillar. This is one of the issues my apartment has and I can’t do any of the remedies so know that my health, career and finance have a potential of being negatively impacted.
If the front door is not easily visible because it is blocked by a tree or other landscaping, or is located on the side of house, the health, especially mental health, negatively impacts the residents of the home. To remedy when trees or plants are blocking the view to the door, take those down so that the door can easily be seen. To attempt to remedy a door located on the side of the house, try to make your front door more obvious using landscaping or lighting features. This is another issue that my apartment has that I am unable to do any remedies for, so this is a second hit to my health unfortunately.
If the front door is at the end of T Junction, this is considered a poison arrow called Crashing Sha because if a car loses control, it can easily crash into the home towards the front door. To mitigate this issue, it is suggested to ensure there is some sort of feature that could stop a car from crashing into the home such as a thick hedge, wall or multiple trees with thick trunks.
When the front door faces a bathroom door, the qi energy is wasted because all the energy ends up in the bathroom. This means any good energy coming through the door is not able to be utilized. Renovation by moving the door so it is not aligned with the front door is the ideal situation, otherwise a much less effective remedy is to simply keep the bathroom door closed.
Or if a front door opens to an interior corner of a wall inside the home, this poison arrow is considered to be an internal sha qi, which weakens the qi energy coming into the front door. There are two remedies to put into place which is to round out the corner so that it is not sharp and to also place a tall plant, that is half the height of the ceiling to block the corner.
When a front door opens to stairs, especially if the flight is close to the front door, the qi energy rushes straight into the upper floor which means the lower level has very little qi, leaving it weak. The suggested Feng Shui remedy is to place a tall/big plant without any thorny leaves at the bottom of the stairs.
If the back door is visible from the front door, this is also considered a poison arrow that specifically affects wealth. In this case, the qi energy is wasted because it goes straight through the house and out the back door. The best remedy is to build a wall from floor to ceiling anywhere possible between the front and back doors. Otherwise, furniture, plants, or a room divider screen as tall as possible is placed between the front and back doors. This is the last issue my apartment has and is the only one that I partially remedy so I don’t have an additional layer of bad energy for my wealth. Since I can’t put renovate and install a wall into an apartment, I placed furniture between the doors with a console table and chairs to help remedy this poison arrow.
The problem with my current apartment is aside from the front door issues I discussed here, there are also several kitchen issues as indicated in my Kitchen Feng Shui post and bedroom issues mentioned in my Bedroom Feng Shui post resulting in many layers of bad energy affecting my health, wealth and career. This is only yet another reason, I am focusing as much energy as I can with my Mankind Luck through spiritual practices and actions for things I can control since I am locked into a lease and have to wait to move out.
