Feng Shui: Remedies & Activations

I’ve mentioned Feng Shui remedies and activations in some of my previous posts, including specific ones for distinct structural issues such as if a kitchen sink is directly across a stove or placing a plant if there is a pole in direct alignment of the front door. There are many different types of remedies and activations within Feng Shui, which vary across the different schools both in type and implementation.

I’ll start with the basics which I would imagine all Feng Shui schools will agree on. A Feng Shui remedy is something put in place to alter or modify energy, often for negative energies and can be also be referred to as a cure. That being said, a very important disclaimer is that any Feng Shui remedy will NOT be a comprehensive cure and will NEVER completely eliminate all bad energy. Just as in the concept of Yin and Yang where there is always a little bit of the opposing energy in each half of the circle, there will always be a little bit of good or a little bit of bad energy in everything. An activation is something put in place to enhance and strengthen existing energy, usually positive energies.

The reason I want to dedicate a post on this topic is because, now that I have the knowledge, it is frustrating to see so much wrong information out there and I’d hate for people to waste money or apply something that could have the opposite effect that they want because of flawed understanding of how real traditional Feng Shui works. Implementing remedies or activations haphazardly can even have extremely detrimental effects. So anyone who is interested in this metaphysical practice, I implore you, please do not do any Feng Shui without proper guidance from a certified classically trained Feng Shui consultant. I would actually recommend NOT doing anything at all, rather than trying to do it yourself through any limited knowledge gained from doing online research or even books.

One of the first things I learned when training under the San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star school, is that there is a lot of inaccurate Feng Shui information out there, especially on the internet, that either simply does not work or at its worst, may result in leaving you in a worse situation than if you never implemented any Feng Shui to begin with. There are also a lot of tchotchkes that many Feng Shui practitioners will insist you buy to help increase your wealth or find a romantic love partner, as an example, but I’m telling you now that they don’t work and likely are recommended simply to get more money out of you. According to my traditional school, there is actually only one Feng Shui specific item that may be recommended to purchase to use and that would be a windchime with a specific number of rods, which is very affordable and can be bought from anywhere, even Amazon.com. But even that, there is usually other alternate remedy options if a client does not wish to purchase and use a windchime.

How do I know that my school’s practice works versus all the other schools out there? I’ve heard many stories and testimonials from my teacher and other graduates of how people would hire them for their classical training, AFTER they had already hired and paid hundreds or thousands of dollars to other Feng Shui consultants who were trained under other schools. This was because the other Feng Shui consultants’ remedies and activations that were recommended did not work or ended badly.

One example of a common faulty Feng Shui activation comes from Western or Black Hat Sect schools, which says to place a water fountain in the southeast, or far left corner of a home when standing at the front door, to bring financial abundance or wealth. According to the traditional school I trained with, the southeast is not for wealth, but rather there are 3 different areas for wealth, which will vary in location from home to home. Placing a water fountain in the southeast, could result in it being in an area of a home that has negative permanent, annual and/or monthly flying star energies and that can result in losing rather than increasing wealth.

My own teacher has consulted with several people who hired her after doing exactly that, placing a water feature in the southeast corner of their home, because they worked with non-classically trained Feng Shui consultants and had terrible results. These people ended up hiring her for help because they had lost significant amounts of money or were close to going bankrupt and were desperate to try to reverse it. If I can influence even one person from making this mistake and prevent money loss, then the time to write and publish this post is worth it.

So what types of remedies and activations can one expect if they hired a classically trained Flying Star Feng Shui consultant? Here are a few examples:

  1. Moving furniture around to ensure beds, desks and stoves are placed in the part of the room that has the most auspicious energy. I will add that my school does not place a high priority on what is called the Commanding Position, that is popular with other schools, because that placement can actually be in an area of the room that has negative energies.
  2. Specific colors that are in alignment with specific elements (earth, metal, water, wood, fire) can mitigate specific negative flying star energies.
  3. Or placing items of actual elements in a specific location of a room, such as if more wood and earth is needed, then moving a potted houseplant to that location will work because it has both dirt, which represents earth and wood, which is the plant itself. There are a few situations in which a fake plant is actually recommended instead of a real live plant as well.
  4. Another example is if a cure requires water, then placing a gallon of bottled water, a pail full of water or using the color blue will act as a viable remedy. If water can be used to activate wealth, then a water fountain or fish tank are options.
  5. Turning on lights for several hours or having blinking fairy strings or himalayan salt lamps are possible activation methods that may be used.
  6. Lastly, salt cures, which I will do future blog posts on, is a very popular remedy.

There are several other items that are associated to Feng Shui such as statues of turtles, frogs, ducks, dragons, buddha and other religious icons, coins, bagua mirrors and faceted clear crystal balls. I was advised through my training that none of these items are effective with manipulating flying star energies and viewed as a waste of money.

If there is only one thing that you take away from any of my many Feng Shui posts, please know that there is a ton of misinformation around Feng Shui that should not be followed. Doing, what my teacher calls “Fast Food Feng Shui”, blindly can result in unintentionally damaging your health, wealth or relationships. So please, don’t attempt to practice Feng Shui on your own based on limited research. If you are really interested, then consider getting trained yourself. I am glad I chose this route for myself because I know all the knowledge I learned will be utilized year after year, because Feng Shui energies change each year and even monthly. I believe it is well worth the investment of time and money to minimize the negative energies in my home, no matter where I am living.

Or if you want a professional consultation, confirm that whoever you hire is certified and trained in classical schools at the very least. I would be happy to guide anyone interested to ask the right questions when determining which consultant to hire or recommend some consultants as well. As a quick tip, to know if a person is properly and classically trained, they will use a compass and need to know when you moved into the house. Even though I am personally a certified consultant, I am only doing my own home for the time being to practice effectively applying my learnings to real life and testing the remedies and activations I execute into my own space.
