Chiron is a comet that orbits between Saturn and Uranus and is considered a Minor Planet in Psychological Astrology. It spends more time in some signs and significantly less in others from anywhere between 1.5 years to 9 years. Chiron spends the most time in Aries and Pisces (8 to 9 years), which are the two signs that apply to myself and the other example chart that I will discuss in this post. As another fun fact, Aries the first sign of the zodiac and Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac.
Per my What Does Mars Really Have to do with Men? blog post, Chiron is supposed to represent past life wounds and karma that you carry which you are meant to work through to grow and evolve to serve in others’ healing. Per Cafe Astrology, while not included in my birth/natal chart that I got from the site, searching the website it says: Chiron is a comet with a unique and erratic orbit. In the natal chart, Chiron is symbolized by the “wounded healer.” It represents our deepest wound and our efforts to heal the wound.
Chiron in our natal charts points to where we have healing powers as the result of our own deep spiritual wounds. We may over-compensate in these areas of life. Chiron, as a wounded healer, first must face issues of low self-worth and feelings of inadequacy and learn to rise above these issues.
Because the wound goes deep, and we may work hard to overcome it, healing powers are potent. As such, Chiron in our charts is a place of great knowledge, experience, talent, and wisdom. Even if our own experience with the issues are problematic, our experience informs us, and we can be excellent guides and counselors in these areas of life.
Its sign and house placement show us our wound and how we go about expressing it. Themes surrounding Chiron include how we might shoot ourselves in the foot, figuratively speaking, damage ourselves, or nurse a wound. We go our own way in Chiron-touched areas.
It also says that interpretations of Chiron…read very much like Saturn, but it helps to recognize their differences. Saturn is certainly a sore spot in our charts, but there can be a lot of defensiveness and denial there, while Chiron feels more like a bottomless pit–we are hypersensitive and hyper-aware or self-conscious in these areas.
We tend to overcompensate in the Chiron areas because we don’t feel good enough or that we can ever do enough; and if we choose to ignore these areas, we hold onto unreasonable levels of guilt.
My Chiron is in Aries. I feel this is one of THE most important aspects that I need to fully understand and work on if I am to properly achieve my purpose in life. According to Café Astrology this is the description of this placement:
You are a champion for the underdog, always ready to remind others of how special and important they are. However, you can have trouble absorbing that lesson yourself, and you may go through many years of telling yourself that you count and that you sometimes need to prioritize yourself to feel whole. You know it in your head, but it’s hard to practice. Keep trying! Helping others express their strengths is a real knack, and with time, you can learn to apply this to your own life.
I do not practice what I preach by any means and am painfully aware that I see myself in an unjustified brutal manner if I compare it to how I see others and try to have them see themselves. I’ve discussed in other posts how my self talk is demeaning and destructive. I also know I need to prioritize myself, needs and wants. Both of these things I find very difficult to do and this explains why it is so easy for me to tell others how to do it, but not apply it to my own self.
I really liked the detail that trulydivine.com’s website goes into with describing Chiron in Aries and I feel it only reinforces what I have discovered with my other planetary placements which you can read through my various other Astrology blog posts. Here are some of those things:
- Self-image is conflicted, weak and under-valued and may end up suppressing feelings of insecurity which influences life towards self-sabotage
- Risk of burning out in your job due to habit of overextending self and the false notion that you need to be a hard worker in order to be loved
- Often hold on and stay in relationships that no longer feel positive
- Project a public image of being in good shape, but…suffering in private
- You are not unworthy for having made mistakes, and your identity is not shaped by previous mistakes
I also appreciate that this website provides guidance and suggestions on what to do with this placement:
- Healing comes from remembering that it’s not necessary to do anything to be loved
- The trick is to get rid of self-deprecating and destructive belief systems that hurt you
- Removing self-judgement and enhancing the presence of self-love provide the mental and emotional space to develop our value and worth
- Daily guided meditations that emphasize forgiveness and love can speed up healing
- An ongoing plan for self-care may include taking the time and space to reflect and determine if your commitments truly serve you
- Addressing the underlying emotions of shame, anger and guilt from past incidents where you gave your power away, will clear out elements of your past that remain unresolved
- Being yourself will allow an abundance of energy to flow through you completely joyfully, free of obstruction
- It is essential to constantly expose yourself to the thought patterns you would like to build
- Set boundaries that are healthy for you to take care of yourself as well as to take care of your existing duties
- Start speaking to yourself as if you were giving praise to someone else who is doing a great job. Give yourself the same positive messages and encouragement every day.
As indicated in my What Does Mars Really Have to do with Men? post, I will also go over another person’s chart, referred to as Kali, who is born on the same month and day as I was, but different year and location to offer a comparison of how two people with the same birth day, can be vastly different despite both being Scorpios. According to Kali’s natal/birth chart from Café Astrology her Chiron is in Pisces and this is the description the report provides:
You have a distinctly soft side, and you’re ready to consider people’s backstories–or presume they have valid ones–before casting judgments. Your main problem can be forgiving others too quickly. While forgiveness is a strength, if it’s taken too far, it can keep you in an awkward place, perhaps holding onto things that would be better off left behind you. Consider that you take on far too much guilt. You can be an excellent counselor, but you tend to give more than you get, and you’re often behind on your own self-care in the process.
As for what trulydivine.com’s website has to say about Chiron in Pisces, here is a brief summary, though I highly recommend reading the full description in the link I provided if you have this placement:
When you are born with Chiron in Pisces, you’ll experience a loss of trust or faith in the universe, divine or the truth. An intense sense of betrayal of victimization or deprivation by the universe or life. An inability to believe in the capabilities and the existence of universal love. A fear of being wounded physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually. A fundamental belief in the unfairness of the world, injustice, inequality as well as the victimization nature of the universe.
With this placement the trulydivine.com website suggests the following:
- Practice how it feels to be able to say “no” to people, places, or things that drain your energy
- Start to practice the method of allowing yourself to change your mind when needed
- Form self-care strategies that rejuvenate and revitalize you
- Allow transformation to manifest by embracing your intuitive gifts
- Save yourself from trouble by asking for assistance
- Be aware of your own limitations
- Be aware of self-sabotaging habits and realize that you could try to escape by losing your identity and sense of self through addictions to drugs, alcohol, sex, food, shopping, self-criticism, exercise, places or other compulsions that could cause you to lose touch with your beautiful and generous self.
- Making a list of experiences that still cause you pain can help you identify what you need to forgive yourself.
- Pick a person who you have betrayed or previously hurt and make amends with them by writing a letter, though do not give them the letter, but instead burn it in a symbolic release (Refer to my The Total Truth Letter Practice post for details how to do this.)
- It’s fine to seek assistance from others. Everyone needs assistance from others.
Even though Chiron is not a planet, and may not be included in all standard natal/birth charts, I do think this aspect is probably one of the most important if one is using astrology to not only better understand themselves but also evolve, transform and achieve their higher and best version of self, including realizing their purpose in life. Personally, I think this is one of the harder things to effect change since it is such a deep wound, but encourage everyone to dive into this one. I find the trulydivine.com website to be very detailed and thorough with both descriptions and what to do with any given Chiron placement, so recommend checking their site out for your own Chiron placement to get further information and guidance.
