The South Node, which is also known as a Lunar Node along with the North Node which is always going to be the zodiac sign that is directly opposite of it, is believed to indicate what innate gifts you bring into the current lifetime as a result of what you learned from your past life. These are the things that come naturally for you and what drives you because it feels familiar and comfortable, a nod to what you experienced from your past life or lives. This can include both talents as well as traumas and is the karmic lessons that carries over for you to overcome in the current lifetime. As I mentioned in my North Node Sign post, I believe understanding and working on both the North and South Nodes along with Chiron is where I should focus my efforts on if I want to find and live up to my potential purpose in life. Per Cafe Astrology, where you can go to get your own birth chart, it says the South Node represents our overdeveloped character traits. We are talented here but if we overdo this area of life or hold onto these traits to feel secure, we may stagnate.
As indicated in my What Does Mars Really Have to do with Men? post, I will also go over another person’s chart, referred to as Kali, who is born on the same month and day as I was, but different year and location to offer a comparison of how two people with the same birth day, can potentially be vastly different despite both being Scorpios. According to Kali’s natal/birth chart from Café Astrology her South Node is in Taurus which is the same as mine, so in this case we are not different and everything that I indicate for myself applies to her as well.
There is no description of the South Node in Taurus in Café Astrology’s natal report, so I am going back to advanced-astrology.com for further details on this placement, which says:
People who have the south node in Taurus are strongly attached to stability. Creating and maintaining stability is their utmost priority in the first part of their life. In the past, they worked very hard to build wealth and be able to live a comfortable lifestyle. They are cautious and think twice before making a move. Their approach to working and living is low-risk and they prefer hard work, persistence and consistency.
With the south node in Taurus, you have a strong drive to acquire wealth. Financial stability is very important for you in order to feel safe in the world. In extreme cases, this position can suggest very emphasized possessiveness. You hold on to what is yours. For some reason, these people sometimes lose their assets and have to rely on the support of other people. It is very hard for north node in Scorpio people to ask for help and accept it.
You are used to being self-reliant. You take pride in providing for yourself and doing an excellent job. The south node in Taurus often suggests that you worked very hard for survival in the past. This often leads to a mentality that you need to pile up possessions in order to feel safe. People with this position are often very materialistic, and material safety is their utmost goal, especially when young. You are very strongly attached to your possessions. Your boundaries are strong and you don’t take it lightly if someone violates them.
Your belongings are very important to you, and enjoy surrounding yourself with quality pieces. Most people with this placement enjoy good food, high-quality materials, a nice home, and they are very sensual. Your senses are refined and you want to own the best of everything.
It is very hard for people with the south node in Taurus to let go of control, as they want to be the masters of their fate at any price.
Learning that there are better ways to achieve goals without having to always deal with hardship, is possible, by also taking the advice of others. This is key to evolving. It also says that I should give more to others and focus on helping them with their goals because it is when I stop worrying about about my own goals and future that I will discover success.
The entire description is 100% totally and completely accurate for me that it felt a little crazy reading through it. Overall, my entire natal chart was for the most part accurate, but there were always a couple things that did not resonate with me. Because this all comes off as so negative, I think it hit me that much harder to recognize all of that in myself, it felt like a very huge hard pill to swallow.
Tying this to the North Node in Scorpio, aside from what I’ve already elaborated on in my North Node Sign post, it indicates that my past life was focused on material possessions and taking care of myself and others. So it is in this lifetime that I need to move away from being materialistic and focus on my spiritual and other intangible aspects of my life such as understanding myself deeply. It is about distinguishing what I really need versus what I only want and letting go of those unnecessary things.
Last year, when I first learned about the North and South Nodes and was doing research, I remember coming across a source, of which now I don’t know what or where it was from, that basically said the following which was shocking to me: Ideally, those that have the North Node in Scorpio and South Node in Taurus, to fully surrender to and embrace being out of our Taurus comfort zone, these people should consider selling their home and all their belongings and literally be a nomad, travelling to find themselves, their spirituality and to focus on helping others.
As much as I love travelling, not having a single place to call home and be my sanctuary, not being surrounded by all of my beloved possessions and spending all my time helping others is probably my worst nightmare. I think of that scenario and imagine how miserable I would feel. I can see that situation making me think of how much more of a failure I would feel not owning anything aside from some clothes and necessary toiletries and accessories. I have come across a couple people who have that kind of lifestyle, owning their car and the basic necessities filling their trunk, not having the same place to sleep at every night and them talking about the freedom they have with their lifestyle. I strongly recall thinking how I could never ever do and live that way and how horribly insecure and unstable it sounded to me.
Thinking about it now, I realize that I derive joy, pleasure and comfort from my home, which I consider my sanctuary because I love to hide away from the rest of the world in it and the physical possessions I surround myself with. That is because without my home or any of these possessions the thought of finding happiness seems impossible if I do not love myself. How can I be happy if all I had was myself? I find happiness in things because I don’t think I can find happiness from within. Isn’t that a terrible revelation to have? It sure does not make me feel good at all. I can’t help but have the thought that maybe, it would take a drastic action of getting rid of everything and forcing to face only myself to get to where I really need to go mentally and spiritually. That is, specifically being not only okay, but happy with myself. That being said, I am not confident I could achieve that, even if I did do it, since I know how negative and self-loathing I can be. Do I have the courage to give up my home and possessions to leave me no choice but to deal with and learn to love myself? No, I don’t think so.
If there is only one aspect you look at in your natal chart, I would probably recommend looking at the Lunar North and South Nodes as this is supposed to give you insight as to what your mission in life is supposed to be. If you haven’t run your natal chart already, you can easily determine it by checking out trulydivine.com’s website which lists all the various Lunar Nodes based on birthdate. As an example, North Node in Scorpio and South Node in Taurus applies to those born June 10, 1975 – January 7, 1977. I am very curious if my friends or family who are close to me in age that fall within that date range feel the same way as I do or if they have already evolved what I am still struggling with. I’d love to have a conversation with someone with this same placement especially if they have made the necessary changes to transform and achieve their purpose in life.
