Mercury House Placement

Per my All My Houses blog post, I generically describe the House System in astrology going into what each House represents. There are many different house systems and this post is based on specifically using the Placidus House system. It is believed that houses with any planet within it is of significance so the specific planet will have a particular influence on whatever the House it is in represents. As part of my blog series of using astrology to understand myself better, I will go over each astrological body’s house placement based on my natal/birth chart.

According to my Cafe Astrology birth/natal report, where you can also go run your own report, Mercury is in my 10th House. As indicated in my What Does Mars Really Have to do with Men? post, I will also go over another person’s chart, referred to as Kali, who is born on the same month and day as I was, but different year and location to offer a comparison of how two people with the same birth day, may be different despite being both Scorpios. According to Kali’s natal/birth chart from Café Astrology her Mercury is located in her 10th House, which is the same as mine, so in this instance we are not different and the description below applies to the both of us

The 10th House is related to the Capricorn sign, called the House of Enterprise, and can impact how you gain finances, such as through career, to build your home, status and success in life. It represents the work you will do in your life and the place you will take in the world of society, with this becoming more important as you grow older.

With Mercury being in our 10th House, the report describes this placement as the following:
Her home and comfort are the most important things to her. She is intelligent and speaks easily and cogently. May easily keep many irons in the fire and follows through her activities. Could move house a lot for business reasons.

You are good with language, and generally use this talent in your profession. You can have an authoritative air about you, or you are talented at communicating and negotiating with those in authority. You might have more than one job going at once much of the time, you could change your career directions frequently, or you could be attracted to jobs that keep you on the move. You require frequent changes of setting or activities in order to remain stimulated and challenged. You are skilled at bringing fresh energy to your conversations or to your job, perhaps because you need the stimulation.

My previous astrology blog posts have touched on my need for stability, which I do prioritize both in a financial and home aspect. I consider my home to be my sanctuary and the comfort within it is very important for me to feel at ease. As a prime example, my bed must be extremely comfortable since I tend to struggle getting a good night’s sleep with all the worrisome thoughts that tend to keep me up at night. Having physical ailment issues with my back and neck, that can also affect my ability to get good sleep. I have a Purple mattress along with a special Tempur pillow that I have shipped from Japan. I even have a Tempurpedic mattress on my guest bed because I like to sleep and nap there (especially if the Feng Shui energies are bad for the month in my primary bedroom). The various bedsheets and blankets I use are all ones that I find very comfortable and soothing to have against my skin, even splurging on a camel hair blanket that is luxuriously soft and temperature regulating on my guest bed.

I don’t think that I speak easily in a verbal manner as well as I do through writing, since I can stumble with my words or have an issue finding the right words to use. I don’t know if the way I speak is convincing either. I ‘d have to ask others or those who read my blog or listen to my podcast if they think I have that ability to persuade through my communication. I feel like I always have several different things going on that I am working on and I believe my drive to feel a sense of accomplishment is what keeps me on track to ensure I finish most of them. While I’ve moved houses a lot, I have never needed to do so for business reasons so don’t think that part is entirely accurate for me. That being said, it is because of my company’s flexibility and current job as a remote worker not needing to report to any particular office that allowed me the opportunity to move to different states when I wanted to.

My Moon House Placement post talked a little about talent for languages, but this placement’s description is referring to the use of language in general and that it is used in my career. It also says I either come off as authoritative or am talented at communicating and negotiating with authority figures. All of this is definitely the case for me and is something I have developed over many years. Being in a role where every communication, especially email, is considered public record and dealing with all levels of people from lawyers, CEOs, to low level analysts, I have to be very good at communicating and negotiating to be successful in my job as all my work depends on it.

There have been a couple times I’ve held more than one job, but I would not say it has been most of the time that I have been working. I put in all I have into my job and have regularly worked enough hours to constitute 2 or 3 jobs, so didn’t have time to actually take on another job. In my Numerology: Life Path (Part 3 – Karmic Debt #13) post, I talk about all the wide range of jobs I’ve held because I’ve regularly shifted gears. I also was attracted to jobs that allowed me to travel. The current job is one I’ve been in for over 10 years now because it continues to keep me on my toes and challenged with the environment, people, processes and day-to-day work being ever changing. Previous jobs would eventually become a bore because I learned all I needed to excel at my job, but because my current job itself evolves as needs, technology and the market environment shifts, I’ve needed to learn new things, change the way work is done and try to innovate and improve on a regular basis. This is one of the reasons why I have not sought out another job.

Since it says the importance of work at a societal level grows as one gets older, and based on the description of Mercury in the 10th house, I can’t help but wonder if I will have another change in my career direction or have more than one job going on in my future that utilizes my talent with language in a different way, such as my writing. Because of my current goal of understanding myself to identify my passions and purpose in life, I have been writing very regularly and enjoy the time I spend creating blog posts. With the topics I’ve covered this year, the style of writing has been different and challenging, and I’d like to shift gears a bit next year. One of my goals is to write a book of short fiction stories. I can see that easily being another job I do on the side apart from my full time job and that would fully utilize my language or communication talents.
