Move over Folding Chairs

There’s a more innovative option for additional seating out there!  I wanted extra seats for those times I have a bunch of family over, but didn’t want to buy those plastic or metal folding chairs that can sometimes be uncomfortable sitting on for long periods of time, which my family tends to do since we can talk for hours sitting around the dining table. I also have a small home and don’t have much space to store folding chairs either.

I have lusted over Resource Furniture’s innovative Cubista for years, which is an incredible space saving seating solution that converts from one square ~22″x~22″x~20″ ottoman into 5 separate padded seats.  I, however, could never bring myself to pay the $1K+ price tag for this Italian custom made to order item with a 16 week lead time.

I had searched every so often if I could find a similar but much more affordable solution and had come across a Made in China version for about half the cost, but after contacting the company and receiving less than desirable communications about the cost of shipping didn’t proceed with the purchase.

A couple days ago, I decided to check Amazon.com and lo and behold, there was the Minimax Decor 5 in 1 Seating Cube For More Space (Red) for ~$220 and it qualified for Prime!  I was beyond excited when my doorbell rang and I found a big heavy box in front of my door tonight.

Each side pulls off to be placed on a metal frame which is nested inside the cube.

Since the main frame has wheels, it is taller than the remaining 4 seats, which are slightly lower than typical dining/desk chair height.  The chair with wheels is the exact dining/desk height matching my normal dining chairs.

Of course the fabric is not real leather and when put together it does not have flawlessly tapered edges like Resource Furniture’s Cubista to form a near perfect cube.  I’m sure the wheels are smoother rolling than this version as well.  While the quality is not exquisite like I would expect from the Made in Italy version, it appears to be well made and I am extremely pleased with what I received for the price (less than $50/seat!).  I was worried the frames, while metal, would be somewhat flimsy, but they feel very sturdy and claim to support up to 350lbs.  The weight of the ottoman itself is just over 40lbs so it’s quite hefty.  Screws on the back of the padded seat fit snuggly into holes of the metal frame and there are plastic feet to help protect your floors as well.  I CANNOT wait to have more than 10 people come over for a meal so I can pull this out!
