Sundance and Park City, UT 2018

WHEN I WAS LAST THERE: July 1, 2018
WHY I WENT: Since I flew in and out of SLC airport to attend the Basque Festival in Elko, NV, I decided to spend a day at Sundance and Park City, UT.
WHERE I STAYED: Newpark Resort
WHAT I SAW: Picture perfect views

If you are visiting the Salt Lake City area, I highly recommend making time to check out both or either Sundance and Park City because they are beautiful and fun places to visit.

Sundance Mountain Resort: I purposely wanted to spend a day to take the scenic lift ride ($20) up Sundance Mountain. There are plenty of trails if you enjoy hiking or you can simply enjoy the ride itself and marvel at the incredible panoramic views. If you want to ride all the way to the top, plan on a 45 minute ride up for a total of 1.5 hours to get back to the base. Tip: You are allowed to take water in reusable bottles as well as small snacks. Don’t plan on bringing a full picnic lunch in a hard cooler though as that is not allowed.

While I did not grab a meal during this trip, I have eaten at the Sundance Owl Bar both in 2016 and 2017 and recommend it if you want to spend more time at the resort enjoying a good meal.

Versante Hearth + Bar: Since I’ve visited Park City a few times already, I once again went to my favorite restaurant in town for dinner. This time I ordered the following:

Chicken Pesto Papardelle

I also made a quick stop at Skullcandy’s office, which holds special meaning to me because I knew my brother spent a lot of time there. I have been to Park City every year since he passed and for some reason I always feel his presence there, sometimes more so than when I visit the Bay Area.

During this trip I stayed at Park City instead of Salt Lake City and absolutely loved the hotel that I was able to reserve at a discounted rate (~$40 cheaper than the hotel’s direct rate) last minute through the hoteltonight app. Check my HotelTonight Post for further details about this app.

Newpark Resort is perfectly decorated with a contemporary cabin feel for it’s location. While I wasn’t lucky enough to get a room with a private deck equipped with its own hot tub, the in room fireplace and deep soaking tub definitely made me feel like I was at a luxury boutique hotel. The fact that I woke up without any back pain is a testament to how comfortable their beds are because even when I stay at a Hilton or Marriott, I usually have back pain. The wet bar with fridge in the room came in handy to keep my leftovers and eat it the next day before heading to the airport. Amenities on-site include an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam and dry saunas along with a standard fitness room. And last but not least, free Wi-Fi and parking was definitely appreciated. I hope to stay here again and get a suite with a private hot tub next time.

If you have any recommendations for either Sundance or Park City, please do let me know as I’m sure I’ll be there again at some point!
