CES 2019

I credit my late brother for getting me into tech, gadgets and CES – Consumer Electronics Show, where the world converges in Las Vegas once a year to check out the next-gen consumer technologies.  With close to 3 million square feet of exhibits by 4500+ companies, it is impressive and sometimes overwhelming experience to be there with 188,000 other people.

While many spend a majority of their time during the show in the Las Vegas Convention Center where a lot of the big name brands like Sony, Google, and LG showcase their large impressive exhibits, I prefer the Sands Expo where the smaller companies, including start-ups, can be found for categories such as health/wellness, wearables, travel and smart home.  Sure LG’s rollable television is incredible, but the things I come across in the Sands Expo is what I really find exciting.

How does smart customized home scents sound to you?  I stopped by the Moodo booth where they explained how their diffuser combined with an app allows the user to create a scent according to their mood blending 4 capsules of perfumed scents produced in France.

I came across a smart mirror where my reflection could be customized with different brands of colors of blush, lipstick and eyebrow powder.  If there was a color I especially liked, I could easily place the order directly through the mirror!

A few aisles over, I was welcomed to a booth and introduced to a smart beer bottle opener that reads the bottle being opened and allows you to write a review on that particular beer.  The review could then be sent directly to the brewery, with the possibility of if you were a frequent drinker of a particular brewery’s beer, maybe the brewery could offer you special deals in the future.

Another exhibitor showed me how, with an app, I could take a picture of a perfume bottle (Chanel No. 5 was used as the example) and it would breakdown the scent profile in which I could then manipulate to my preference (stronger citrus as an example) and the device would provide the customized drop of the scent on a test strip.  If I liked it, I could then have the customized perfume mixed into a small bottle.

There were so very many things I saw over 2 full days at CES that I couldn’t possible write about all of them, but there were a handful of things I came across that I do plan on writing posts about, so be on the lookout for future posts soon!
